OYSTER 82 BILL AND ME
Oyster Brokerage are delighted to announce the listing of 82-12 Bill and Me.
The Oyster 82 was the largest Oyster, and the flagship of our range, when she was launched in 2004. Designed by Rob Humphreys in conjunction with our own design team, the 82 is very much a distillation of his previous Oyster designs and, like them, was designed and engineered for effortless long-distance cruising. Elegant and refined, the 82 is beautifully balanced, 240-mile days become a reality and while big and powerful, the 82 is also capable of being handled by a small crew or couple. Full use is made of the available deck space to split the cockpits into working and lounging areas, the forward cockpit area is secure and well protected, a sociable relaxation area with large cockpit tables offering ‘al fresco’ dining. The working cockpit is aft of this with twin helm positions, winches, and sail control systems positioned for ease of use. All the 82s were launched as cutters, with a powerful overlapping genoa, and staysail for stronger conditions.
Below decks, almost all 82s have the raised saloon, which works beautifully at this size, and allows panoramic views while seated from the saloon/dining area, and a raised navigation station positioned close to the companionway. It also allows easy access to the cockpit and a spacious area below for engine and machinery. Down a few more steps are the galley and lower snug with its own table and TV. The magnificent owner’s stateroom is aft, with two en suite guest double cabins. Crew accommodation is forward, giving great separation and privacy. The 82 is both an accomplished bluewater family cruiser and a successful charter yacht. Seventeen 82s were launched in total between 2004 and 2012.
Bill and Me is a 2009 example, hull number 09, and has cruised the UK and Mediterranean in her current ownership. She has distinctive orange spars which are carbon, saving a considerable amount of weight aloft, and when combined with her fully battened mainsail enhances her sailing performance considerably. She has warm cherry joinery below decks where she sleeps up to nine in five cabins, with three additional Pullman berths. Well maintained and in lovely condition throughout, she is now in Ipswich, and available for viewing at any convenient time.

OWNERS’ COMMENTS
“I bought 82-14, now Bill and Me, in early 2022 and enjoyed trouble-free cruising from Gibraltar to Malta and then up to Genova. This took up a good part of the Summer.
Then we went to the UK for a refit, to fix some problems, and to make improvements to her aesthetically. We left in May the following year, and went to Cornwell, a place we had already visited but liked very much. Then we moved to the Med and Corfu and remained in Greek waters island hopping until the end of September when the crew took the boat to the UK. The Summer of 23 was very hot but the boat machinery held up except for one of the saloon air conditioners that we are now having replaced.
I bought 82-14 based on the flawless trips I did with Oyster 72-12 with which we (crew and owners) sailed to the Caribbean having great fun. The 82 is bigger, beam-wise, than the 72, and kinder in rough weather. It was certainly the boat I liked and wanted. Unfortunately, due to my age, I have problems with both legs and boating has become more difficult for me, which is the reason for me now selling her.
Owner of BILL AND ME since 2022
The items in italic highlight the non-standard items fitted during the build programme or added by the owner thereafter.
1. CONSTRUCTION
HULL NUMBER
Oyster 82/12.
HULL CONSTRUCTION
Moulded in GRP from female moulds and built by Oyster in their own facility under the designer’s supervision, ensuring a smooth accurate finish. Hull and deck structures moulded to the designer’s specification under controlled conditions and all laminating carried out by hand to high standard. GRP lay-up specification calculated to meet and exceed Lloyd’s Register of Shipping Rules for Yacht and Small Craft with bulkheads made of marine Ply.
Hull uses a high performance gelcoat laminated using vinylester resin for all outer skins. The hull is of single skin construction, reinforced with a matrix of stringers and floors, above and below the waterline, to ensure a robust structure with good strength to weight qualities and proven longevity. Limber holes and/or tubes are installed at appropriate points. Stringers, bulkhead landings and floors incorporate non-structural, inert, polyurethane foam.
HULL FINISH
Awlgrip ‘Stark White’ hull with cove line and double boot top lines in Awlgrip ‘Medium Grey.’
DECK CONSTRUCTION
Moulded in GRP with a balsa core for strength and insulation. In load-bearing areas the core is replaced with plywood for additional strength, and all load-bearing fittings have aluminium backing plates.
DECK FINISH
Teak laid decks, with additional thin teak deck on coachroof forward of sprayhood. Anti-fungal treatment applied to decks (2020).
The deck edge incorporates a bulwark, which enhances the yacht’s visual appearance with a graceful sheer line. This bulwark facilitates relatively flat side decks whilst providing a good foothold when working the yacht in a seaway. The top of this bulwark is capped with a substantial teak capping in varnished wood finish. Internal scupper drains are installed along the deck edge.
Deck saloon styling incorporates an eyebrow effect and modern angular windows. Top painted with non-skid deck paint. Louvre inlets at end of eyebrow and window mullions in ‘white.’
KEEL
High performance bulb (HPB) external lead keel.
RUDDER
Fully protected skeg-hung rudder.
