General

  • Remarks:

The "Bries" was conceived from the beginning as a charter yacht and belongs to one of the first charter boats in the Netherlands. For this reason the "Bries" was built with an enormous interior, the gangway is 70 cm wide ... After a complete refit in 2010/2011, the Aak once again has 8 charter guests at its disposal. Equipped with VHF radio, plotter and current water charts, the sailing area of the lakes and the Wadden Sea are open to you.

The ship can be hydraulically steered with a steering wheel. Below decks, a large lounge and a fully equipped kitchen invite you to spend a pleasant stay. The ship has 2 cabins for 2 persons and 1 cabin for 4 persons.

Bries is a sailing monument with a rich, very special history. The Lemsteraak was abandoned in 1916 at De Valk shipyard, owned by the Hindeloopen brothers, in Ouder Amstel, now Amsterdam. The heavy, steel riveted ship was drawn by D. Zijlstra and was called boeieraak at the time. The construction was commissioned by charter skipper Jan Goos. This barge was one of the first to be built as a yacht and also one of the first charter ships.

Many of the old Lemsteraken, still sailing, were originally built as fishing vessels or cargo ships, to be later converted into yachts. Bries has been conceived as a charter ship since drawing and that makes this Lemsteraak unique.

The ship's past and history is well documented. After many wanderings as a charter ship Goos sold the barge to England in 1935. During the Allied landing in Normandy in 1944, the barge was used as a hospital ship. In 1954 Bries came into the hands of a second English owner and in 1978 the ship was taken over by an owner from Belgium. This brought the barge back in good condition and eventually the ship ended up back in the Netherlands.

In 2011 a complete restoration took place at the SRF site in Harlingen. There the ship is blasted and provided with a 2 component paint system. The interior, installations and equipment have been renewed and adapted to the demands of our time. The ship is partly rented out and has an adapted rigging with furling jib for ease of operation and can also be sailed well without a jib. Also very recently the necessary innovations have been implemented.

Bries offers a very spacious interior with 8 fixed beds and is very fully equipped. Completely ready to sail, with rental turnover and subject to conditions deductible VAT. Ask us about the possibilities!
