Commenting on her victory in the Giraglia in 1971 in Class IV, the press called her the Stradivarius of the Sea because she was not only very fast, but also exceptionally beautiful and built with great refinement.
MANIA I, project number 174 of Cantiere Sangermani was much loved by designer Cesare Sangermani and his son Cesare jr, who successfully helmed her in numerous regattas including the 1971 Giraglia.
Moored in Fiumicino (Rome), MANIA I is maintained very well and professionally by the Cantiere dell'Argentario.
Designed by Cesare Sangermani in 1968 and launched in 1969, the boat belonged to the shipyard until 1972 when it was sold to the Zevi family, who maintained her perfectly until 1992. In 1988, on behalf of the new owner Zevi, the Sangermani shipyard restyled the interior, making her more comfortable for cruising and replaced the wooden mast and boom with new light alloy profiles. Since 1992 with her new owner, Fabrizio Giovagnoni, she has participated in many classic and vintage boat regattas, often achieving victory or excellent results. Apart from the shipyard itself, MANIA I has only had two owners to date, both of whom have always maintained her with great passion.
MANIA I's first excellent racing results prompted Sangermani to hand over the design to Nordcantieri, which then produced her in series in fibreglass, retaining her water lines but modifying the interiors and in particular the dimensions of the living quarters. Production began in 1972 and ended in 1979 and 15 were built. Many years later, with her third owner MANIA I won in her class at the Prada Veteran Boat Rally in Porto Cervo in 1999 and in the 2000, 2004 and 2011 editions of Argentario Sailing Week, finishing 2nd in her class in 2012.
