  • Comments: M.V. Meander was designed by Robert Allen Sr. for Mr. George Kidd Esq. to travel in B.C. & Alaska waters as well as to return Mr. Kidd to his homeland of Scotland with reliability, comfort and the class of the age. She was designed to withstand the Pacific Northwest’s worst weather conditions and the ice of Alaska while traveling at 8 knots on 4 gals per hour. She was built in 1934 by W.R. Menchions Shipyard in Vancouver B.C. from teak, white oak, B.C. cypress, mahogany, iron wood and fir. The hull is 2” cypress planks on 2×3 white oak at 9” centers, with 2nd 2×3 bent over keel, ironwood stem forefoot and stern post with a fir keel. She has teak shear planks, 2” teak decks, heavy teak bull-work caps and handrail, teak deck house and saloon, hatches with 2” teak dovetail joints and all doors, windows, interior cabinets and the wheelhouse are also teak. She has a sea going galley, forward captain’s cabin with en-suite head, engine room with an L2 Gardner generator, 2 /550 gallon fuel tanks, 110 volt DC battery bank, twin disc 512 gear, 3.25 inch shaft and a 42×34 inch prop. The master stateroom has a queen sized bed, full couch, hanging closets, linen closet and en-suite head. Aft is a tiled shower port side, curved stairs to the deck and an aft cabin with a double and a single bed, hanging closets, vanity & mirror and an en-suite head. The Salon has a table with seating for 6 to 8 people, cabinets, sideboard and storage. The large aft deck has teak hatches and room for up to 30 people for parties or charters. Built as a ship and finished as a yacht, Meander is a well maintained vessel with her originality preserved.
