Owner's comment

In 2010 we bought a new Bavaria 32 cruiser of the last model, just before the Bavaria shipyard went bankrupt.

After a year of sailing on the IJsselmeer, we noticed that with a bit of wind, the 32 feet Bavaria was difficult to handle and suffered a lot from the short wave action. Sitting on the terrace of the harbour in Lelystad, we were thinking about the future of this Bavaria 32 and got into conversation with the ship's broker on the spot. He told us that for this water we should consider a bigger ship, at least 36 feet or more. A weekend later a blue Bavaria 38 entered the harbour and I saw the broker at the helm. He put the boat in a box and grabbed his camera and started taking pictures. Could this be a ship for sale, we thought, who would sell such a beautiful ship?

Quickly we walked to the sales pier and heard the story, this Bavaria belonged to a real BN-er who had bought the ship new in 2007, had had it moored in the harbour only in 2008 and then had not or hardly used it due to lack of time. However, more than 160,000 euros had been paid for it. We immediately fell in love and before the Florijn would appear on the broker's website, we had completed the deal and were the proud owners of this dark blue Bavaria 38 cruiser. The ship's broker was right about the sailing, what a huge difference with the 32 that we sold quickly, fortunately. The length and mass provide a quiet location in the water. With the bow thruster every box has become child's play and with the mainsail and furling genoa that we can operate from the cockpit we never have to reef or rig the deck again. With great pleasure we sailed on the IJsselmeer for another 3 years, weekends and now and then 14 days of holiday. In 2015 we moved to the Zeeland waters via the standing mastroute. The current sailing area is from Willemstad in the weekend towards Hellevoetsluis or Stellendam, where we will stay overnight and return the next day. During the holidays it is our round Zeeland, via the Volkerak to the Oosterschelde or the Grevelingen and sometimes to Yerseke or Veere if we have a little more time. In the spring and autumn we often turn the heating on for an hour in the morning and if possible we have breakfast outside in the cockpit. But now it's time to say goodbye to our boat, the time is simply lacking to enjoy our ship. We've never even used the microwave, the oven only to heat up a croissant on Sunday morning. The new owner is going to enjoy the space, the sailing characteristics and the beautiful reactions we often got to our Florijn when we were in a harbour.
