General

  • Remarks: Brokers Comments
The boat purchased by current owner in Jan 2017 and underwent a full refit by Stuart Miller marine (SRM) in Hamble to be made ready for sailing for Spring. ‘Black dog’ benefits from a lower endorsed rating of 1.083 than other J122s. This has proved potent over the last few years on the racing circuit, wining IRC 1 at Dartmouth regatta in 2018 and 2019. As well as dominating the 2019 UK IRC nationals winning Class and overall, convincingly. Outside of a few regattas a year the boat has been used lightly for local coastal racing and has been professionally maintained throughout current ownership.

There can be no argument that the J/122 is at the very top of the 40' class of true racer cruisers, with a very competitive IRC rating of 1.083.

Black Dog is the third J Boat of that name to be campaigned by her highly experienced and successful owner/skipper and crew. Her impressive race record culminated in winning the RORC IRC National Championship in 2019.

Built in 2007 she had a complete refurbishment in 2017 by her current owner including a new Volvo 40hp engine, new saildrive, new electronics, standing and running rigging and new inventory of North 3Di sails. Since then no expense has been spared on maintenance and her extensive inventory includes £20,000 of as yet unused North sails for 2020.

If there is a compromise in sailing the J 122 is it: she is one of the very few boats that can offer genuinely competitive racing both inshore and offshore and yet this thoroughbred yacht can also be cruised with the family allowing for fast, safe and easy passage making.
