Flat-bottomed sailing boats
Are you looking for a round or flat-bottomed sailing boat? At YachtFocus you will find many round-bottom and flat-bottom boats for sale by brokers and individuals.
Flat-bottomed and round-bottomed boats were once used for transporting coal, peat and other cargo, but they were also used for fishing. The round-bottom is a ship of which the transition to the bilge is smooth. Although the difference between round-bottom and flat-bottom is often hard to see due to differences of sometimes only a few centimetres, the round-bottom is definitely different from the flat-bottom. A flat-bottomed vessel has a kink in the transition from the plane (the bottom) to the bilge. These cargo ships can fall dry without problems due to the shallow draught and flat bottom. Flat-bottom ships are originally sailing boats, but nowadays we also find many motorised flat-bottom ships in the pleasure cruising sector.
Buying a round or flat-bottom sailing boat
Examples of flat bottom boats are the Staverse Jol, Grundel, Vollenhovense Bol, Zeeschouw and the Lemsteraak. The Staverse Jol and the vlet are one of the few examples of clear round-bottomed boats. For example, the Lemsteraak and the tjalk were flat-bottomed when they were made of wood, but became round-bottomed when they were later made of iron and steel. Perhaps you are interested in a classic sharp sailing yacht or classic/traditional motor yacht, or have a look at ex-professional motor boats.
Would you like to experience sailing in a classic flatboat? Through YachtFocus you can also charter a flat-bottom sailing boat!
