RS Tera Class grows in Poland
As momentum for the RS Tera class grows around the world, RS Sailing has announced another exciting development for the class in Poland. VMG SAILING, based in Warsaw has become the newest international RS dealer and the first ten Teras have just been delivered to them. Plans are underway to launch a project for up to fifty Teras in 2011 for use in sailing clubs across Poland and for a new regatta series at venues with great spectator opportunities close to the centre of a number of cities. Sponsored boats supplied for these regattas will give an incredible opportunity for young Polish sailors.
The Polish Yachting Association will assess the RS Tera this autumn with a view to adding the boat to their recognised classes and program of events.
A strong jury containing, PYA representatives, Pro sailors, coaches and parents selected the RS Tera after organising trials involving all the well known and new junior single handed dinghies. Young Polish sailors tested all the boats and gave their feedback and following this the Tera was chosen for its performance, modern appeal, easy handling, simplicity and durable construction. The aim is to give young Polish sailors an inspirational class that will keep them involved in sailing and provide a stepping stone to the modern, high performance classes.
Partners in the new class establishment include Finn gold medallist Mateusz Kusznierewicz and Kasper Orkisz, both of whom have extensive sailing and marine industry backgrounds. Martin Wadhams, Managing director of RS Sailing said "We are delighted and proud that Mateusz and Kasper have selected the RS Tera and become part of the rapidly growing family of international RS dealers. They share our passion for the development of sailing from grass roots upwards and are perfect partners for us in Poland." Kasper Orkisz adds "We were looking for a boat that is going to fit the gap between Optimist and the lasers and 29ers. We want to show to young sailor that sailing is fun and cool. We believe that RS Tera is the best boat to satisfy all those needs.
The RS Tera is an ISAF International Class and is available with both 3.7m2 Sport and 4.8m2 Pro mainsail sizes. The Sport sail is made from strong Dacron fabric and can be reefed in stronger winds allowing complete novices to learn in the Tera. The Mylar Pro sail has full length battens and offers progression as a young sailor's experience and size grows. Both sails fit on the same spars, so upgrade is easy. Tera can be raced by youngsters from 30kg and will comfortable carry up to 65kg helms.
The Tera's three layer rotomoulded polyethylene construction system is also ideal for young sailors and fleet operators due to its durability and realistic price.
