NEW LISTING - OYSTER 575 UNTETHERED
BROKER’ S COMMENTS
UNTETHERED is a stunning example of the very successful 575 series, and is likely the best specified 575 that Oyster has ever seen built. Every consideration was taken and no stone left unturned in pursuit of a dream yacht and it shows. As an Oyster 575 she is one of the finest examples of a blue water cruising yacht, as UNTETHERED she represents a one of a kind specification in creating a high performance offshore, near-shore and circumnavigation vessel.
Featuring a hydraulically lifting keel, she has the capacity to enter shallow harbours and bays leaving little out of reach, whilst still having the unbridled blue water capability associated with the range. The extended transom design, with hydraulic drop-down bathing platform, facilitates ease of boarding, whilst also providing additional space above deck and phenomenal aft deck storage below. The rig set up, which has been upgraded to a cutter, is configured for short-handed sailing with a hydraulic in-mast furling mainsail, headsail and staysail, the latter of which feed back seamlessly to electric powered winches. Performance is further expanded with a custom stemhead allowing her to carry a full-time downwind sail and ability to sail nearly any wind angle and speed at a moment’s notice. A phenomenal navigation and communication set up allows you the ability to not only cruise far and wide but also to touch base with work and home when you need to. An 11.5 feet RIB with 30hp Mercury motor, and side mount steering and throttle console put any shore dock or harbour within easy reach while at anchor.
Built in 2018 she was lightly used through 2020 and then fully tested in offshore waters. UNTETHERED has been meticulously maintained with additional investment in numerous performance and operational upgrades, making her ready for any cruising or offshore destination. UNTETHERED’s engineering credentials include Lithium Ion batteries, an increased capacity generator, tunnel bow thruster, electric retractable stern thruster, watermaker, and a three zone air conditioning system with reverse cycle functionality, dry-bilge pump and custom designed and installed tools and spares storage. A lot of effort was put into her charging and inverter set up meaning that, for extended periods, there is no need to run the generator to power a lot of appliances you would normally associate with the generator or shore power.
Below deck, the exquisite design features and finishes are evident throughout. The joinery, crafted in quarter sawn, horizontal oak with an Osmo white-washed finish, is juxtaposed beautifully against the walnut cabin sole and luxurious carpeted zones. No expense was spared in selection of leathers, covered headboards and Onne van der Wal photography. With eight berths in four cabins, a light and airy saloon, and galley equipped with all the extras, including but not limited to, a boiling water tap, microwave, electric oven with induction hob, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and a washer/dryer, 5-zone Sonos system, and dual USB sockets fitted at each outlet and in each cabin. UNTETHERED not only looks good, but also has the luxuries equipped in many yachts twice her size.
Cared for by dedicated and careful owners, UNTETHERED presents as if she were new. Just back in the water after her annual haul out, and inspection and maintenance of all systems, including engine/generator, hydraulics, rigging, air conditioning, watermaker, thrusters, and tender, she is ready for her next adventure.

OWNERS’ COMMENTS
“UNTETHERED has been built and further upgraded to be a high performance offshore and coastal cruiser capable of any destination, both deep and shallow water, where she is just as comfortable in ocean crossings as she is at anchor a few hundred yards offshore any beach anywhere in the world. The hydraulic lifting keel ensures she is equally safe and comfortable anchored in shallow water bays, or just off the beach on an island shelf, as a deep water passage. The lifting keel also allows her to sail at speed downwind when raised and point well into the wind when deployed. She has been additionally fitted with a custom stemhead allowing her to carry more than 4 tons of load when sailing downwind under Gennaker or Spinnaker. This also allows the Gennaker to stay mounted full-time so she is capable of sailing nearly any wind angle efficiently at any time.
Fitted in 2021 with a full set of custom designed North Sails 3Di Endurance sails she is capable of sailing any ocean for years to come. Also fitted in 2021 with custom designed North Sails top down furling Helix Gennaker and Asymmetric Spinnaker, she moves swiftly with winds astern in 6 knots to 20 knots expanding her capacity for high performance sailing and speed at nearly any wind angle. Rigging and deck hardware configuration, hydraulic furlers and high capacity electric winches also allow her to be sailed single handed with ease.
The extended aft deck design and hydraulic swim platform nearly double her aft deck space to more than 7 feet. This provides a large aft deck space with extended rail seating, while also giving her two large lazarettes capable of storage of a compliment of downwind sails as well as diving and recreational equipment comfortably. Storage has been enhanced and equipped for extended offshore sailing with the addition of purpose-built storage locker giving ample space for tools, spares and a large work platform while underway. UNTETHERED is also fully prepared with an extensive set of spares and tools putting her at the ready for ocean crossings and circumnavigation.
UNTETHERED has been designed, built, upgraded, and fitted to be a world and coastal cruiser capable of any destination and creating a high performance sailing capability in nearly any wind conditions. The level of fit below decks ensures she has a high level of comfort when laying at anchor or at dock at regardless of where she lands.”

1. CONSTRUCTION
HULL NUMBER - Oyster 575/42.
HULL CONSTRUCTION - The hull is a composite construction of Fibre Reinforced Plastics (FRP) and sandwich materials, moulded in female tooling developed by Oyster. Moulded using a combination of vinylester and high quality orthotropic polyester resin, with the outer topside finished in a ‘white’ NPG gelcoat that provides excellent UV resistance and waterproofing qualities, suitable for use in tropical environments. Laminate material comprises a combination of E-Glass, Kevlar and Carbon Fibre specially designed for the yacht by Oyster’s structural engineers. Topside laminate has a balsa-cored, E-Glass/Carbon sandwich above the waterline, for additional strength, stiffness and insulation. Below the waterline, the hull features a monolithic (single-skin) composite laminate, with an Aramid/Kevlar layer, reinforced with a web of stringers and floors. Combined with BS1088 standard marine-ply structural bulkheads, this produces a robust structure, with excellent strength to weight qualities and proven longevity. Local reinforcement is applied at the keel recess, the keel longitudinals, mast bulkhead, P-bracket, forestay, and hull stringers. Limber holes and/or tubes are installed at appropriate points. Stringers, bulkhead landings, and floors are formed over non-structural, inert, polyurethane foam.
HULL FINISH - ‘White’ hull with ‘Bronze Grey Gloss’ cove line. Double boot top lines - lower boot top in ‘Bronze Grey Gloss’ vinyl, and upper boot top line in ‘Grey’ Yacht name and logo on exterior and interior transom door. Antifouling in ‘Black’ (annually). Ultra 20 Series II system, two transducer ultrasonic antifouling.
DECK CONSTRUCTION - Moulded in FRP with balsa core. In load-bearing areas the core is replaced with plywood for additional strength, with backing plates or large washers at all fittings taking load.
DECK FINISH - Weather deck, cockpit seats, and sole areas are planked with quarter-sawn teak. Fore and aft coachroof tops, and cockpit coamings finished in ‘white’ gelcoat, with ‘white’ non-slip deck paint applied to appropriate panels. Deck edge incorporates a bulwark, featuring relatively flat side decks, and provides good footholds when working the yacht in a seaway. The top of the bulwark has a clean gelcoat finish, giving a modern and stylish rolled edge, enhancing the sheer line.
KEEL - Super shoal draft keel with centreboard. The centreboard keel combined with twin rudders allows for shallow draft cruising without sacrificing deep water performance. The ballast keel design means the centreboard case does not affect the yacht’s accommodation and is safe to sail with the centreboard fully retracted. The keel is a long, shallow profile FRP moulded stub, with a shallow lead fin ballast keel bolted to it. The keel stub is made with a central slot that allows the centreboard to swing up inside. The ballast keel is a lead casting with approximately 4% antimonial hardening bolted to the FRP keel stub with Nickel Aluminium Bronze (NAB) bolts. The FRP keel stub incorporates a wide footprint area to facilitate secure attachment of the ballast keel, and create a deep bilge bump with suitable limber holes to allow easy evacuation of bilge water.
CENTREBOARD - The SG grade iron centreboard plate is coated with an epoxy paint system, and is pivoted on a bronze pin set into a low friction bearing sleeve. The pivot pin may be removed for maintenance. The pivoting board and lifting mechanism have been designed to minimize risk of serious damage, in the event of hitting an underwater obstruction. The centreboard plate is raised and lowered by a hydraulic ram fixed over the keel on the boat’s centreline. This is powered by a 24V DC hydraulic power pack connected to the yachts service battery bank. It is connected to the upper trailing edge by a high strength rope line and link bar. Operation of the hydraulic ram is by push-buttons sited at one of the steering pedestals. There is a ‘Board UP’/’Board DOWN’ position indicator, together with a centreboard plate retrieval backup system. Sheaves and lifting line are accessible for removal and maintenance. NB. The centreboard position must not be adjusted whilst the board is under load, in sailing conditions. The vessel must be slowed to less than 4 knots in order to release sideways pressure from the board, pin, and casing assembly prior to operating the hydraulic lift.
RUDDER - Twin balanced spade rudders each have a substantial glass fibre blade, foam-filled and bonded to a carbon fibre rudder stock. Each rudder incorporates top and bottom bearings. The tops of the rudder stocks terminate at deck level and are covered by a screw-in deck plate. This facilitates the use of a stainless steel emergency tiller from a usable position on deck. The emergency tiller has stowage provided within the lazarette locker.
STERN DESIGN - Extended transom configuration with hydraulic drop-down bathing platform for boarding from a tender or for water sports. The platform is laid with teak decking, and provided with a stainless steel bathing ladder.
EURCD - Built to comply with the requirements for Category A – Ocean.
