Parkstone Bay Yachts is very fortunate to bring to market this extremely well cared for Wauquiez 48 Pilot Saloon, currently located in the US Virgin Islands.
AQUILA, formerly Norman Court, was launched in 1998 in France by Wauquiez and has had only two owners. This Ed Dubois design with an Andrew Winch interior was built and outfitted to the highest standards.
The Wauquiez PS 48 is a blue water cruiser noted for exceptional sailing performance with ease and comfort. She is a true deck saloon with a raised floor and large windows allowing panoramic sea views at the pilot station and saloon. Below the raised saloon is an expansive engine and utility room. Roller furling, electric winches, self- tacking jib and control lines leading to the cockpit make her an extremely easy boat to sail shorthanded. In addition, a second interior helm station allows her to be driven from inside.
She is kept up to date by her current owners and is ready to set sail. Cruising on the clear turquoise waters of the eastern Caribbean with trade winds is ideal and a great start for a longer voyage!
She boasts a White GRP hull with midnight blue stripes. Aramid fibers go from bow to mast area of hull to withstand collisions with submerged objects. Teak decks, cockpit and coachroof (no screws). Toughened glass windows, lead keel, Whitlock Mamba steering (with joystick in saloon), Harken blocks and an emergency tiller. Teak interior joinery with Alcantara Wauquiez blue upholstery. Forward owner's cabin with centreline double berth with shelves and access on both sides, ample hanging closets and drawers, ensuite head (Jabsco electric) and shower. Two aft cabins, one to port with double berth (split cushions), one to starboard with two single bunks. A shared aft head with shower and electric head. Lee cloths in saloon (sea bunk) and both aft cabins. 1.9 m headroom. Sloop (Solent) rigged with two furling headsails, keel-stepped Sparcraft white painted aluminium mast - repainted in 2010 and electric in-mast furling, 3 × spreaders, s/s wire standing rigging. Electric genoa furling, drum staysail (both Profurl), hydraulic Navtec backstay adjuster and boom vang. B&G instruments. Crusader performance cruising mainsail, genoa & self-tacking jib. Spinnaker pole. Cruising asymmetrical spinnaker with sock, lightly used.
AQUILA has had many upgrades over the current owners time as keepers, most of which can be found in the descriptions at the bottom of the listing. One of the most prominent improvements is adding enough solar panels to supply all the electricity needed aboard AQUILA.
Important maintenance projects have been completed this year (2023-2024) including, but not limited to:
