The Contessa 32 really needs no introduction; their storied history is well known, and serves to prove what amazing craft these are. The Contessa 32, designed by David Sadler and built by Jeremy Rogers, boasts a reputation that few other yachts have ever managed to achieve.
"Pelican" has been much loved since her late owner bought her in 1987. He sailed, single handed, over 53,000 miles with her, completing at least four Channel crossings a year and explored the South Coast of the UK, North Coast of France and the Channel Islands. She is a very tidy example of her type, as the pictures hopefully show.
"Pelican" has a comprehensive inventory that includes a Beta 20hp engine (new 2012), cabin heating, windlass, dinghy and outboard, liferaft, radar and autopilot.
The vendors commissioned a comprehensive survey in May 2022. A copy of the report is available upon request.

Pelican spent her first 10 years as a British Army sail training vessel in the Baltic, where my father occasionally instructed. Dad knew the small fleet of Contessas well, and when they were put up for sale in 1987, he knew precisely which he wanted. Soon afterwards, he sailed Pelican back to Dover and began an extensive refurbishment program. By the time Pelican made her way along the South Coast to Poole, where Mum and Dad had chosen to retire, she was looking like new again.
Pelican has given the family terrific pleasure for the past 35 years and were I a little closer to retirement I’d have gladly kept her on. I hope that her new owners will cherish her as much as we have and trust that they will be well rewarded.
I commissioned a full survey report (dated 16 May 2022) to avoid any surprises down the road. The report is comprehensive and makes many recommendations for repairs and updating, but none of them is serious or requires immediate attention. I have assumed that in time the new owner will want to implement all of the recommendations and have taken full account of that in arriving at the revised asking price.
